When it comes to your coat, in my mind there is only one option for the serious coat wearer and that is a wool coat men, am I right? You can buy any old coat off the rack somewhere but nothing says sophistication and intelligence and taste like a good wool coat.
The problem is, you can’t just walk into a store and buy one of these things, you have to find the right one for you. Wool coats aren’t like other coats, you often need to have them fitted (though you can get away without doing this in some cases). Where you buy the coat is also important, as well as how much you spend on it. So I decided to make a web page dedicated to all these things in order to help you find the best coat possible.
I had quite a hard time finding my first one I’ve bought several wool coats over my life, usually overcoats that are long because I live in a pretty cold climate… and I bought my first one when I was 22 years old. The fact of the matter is, I had no idea what I was doing and I ended up with a pretty crummy coat. It just didn’t quite fit very well and it was little bit too large.
When I bought that first coat I fell into the overcoat trap. I thought that it needed to be a little bit larger than it normally would be since I would be wearing it over lots of things like suit jackets and things like that. I was mistaken! The amazing thing about a wool overcoat is that you don’t necessarily have to buy a larger one in order to wear it over things. These coats are a bit like magic and I’m not exactly sure how they do that; but it doesn’t really matter.
The Importance of Fitting: before you buy a men’s wool coat, you should absolutely have yourself fitted in the store. This is not a big deal whatsoever, usually a salesman can do this for you in a matter of a minute or two. Basically they just take a tape measure and run some quick measurements of your chest and shoulders and arms length. This way they can find the exact coat for your body size quickly and easily without you having to spend the day trying on dozens of different coats… and really, who wants to do that?! Not me!
To Tailor or Not To Tailor: that is the question! Many people like to have these kind of coats tailor-made by somebody who specializes in tailoring jackets and suits. Yes, it is true you will get a much better fitting coat this way that will look better and possibly even last longer… but you can expect to pay much more money doing this than simply buying off the rack. It’s really a matter of personal preference. If you have the money and are so inclined, then I recommend having one tailor-made. But for most of us, off the rack will do just fine.
Wool Coats Are Tricky in that the material can be both thin and thick. For this reason, you really need two coats; one for the fall and spring when it’s not so cold outside, and one for the dead of winter when you absolutely need something that has more warmth and will keep out the cold adequately.
One thing is absolutely sure though, and that is a wool coat men, is something you can be proud to wear and something that you know will never go out of style. I don’t have time to keep up on fashion so I need to know that my coat is always going to look good, and now I do.
